President's Message

Election season is upon us.  I hope you have been able to wade through the sea of political advertisements to find your way to a polling location to exercise your civic duty.

Along with election season comes the season of giving thanks.  I am thankful for many things: family, friends, colleagues, and job are at the forefront.  Another thing I am thankful for is the current economic situation here in the Houston area, and I am especially thankful to be in this area at this time.  Much of the country continues to struggle economically but here at home we have weathered the storm remarkably well.  One factor that contributes to our prosperous economy is our local infrastructure.  However, in order to maintain this prosperity, we must not take for granted what we have.  Infrastructure investment is a critical component for a vibrant community.

Our November Branch meeting will feature the unveiling of the first comprehensive Infrastructure Report Card for the Houston area.  This report card makes an unbiased assessment of key features of our local infrastructure and provides a catalyst to spur discussion regarding areas that need attention.  This is a discussion that every one of us can and should participate in to assure continued economic development that will benefit not only our generation but generations to come.  I hope you will use this valuable tool to discuss the state of our infrastructure with your co-workers, associates, and legislators.

As we give thanks, we must keep in our thoughts those who are less fortunate.  Hurricane Sandy and her remnants have left a devastating swath of destruction in one of the country’s most populous regions.  For suggestions on how you can help with the rebuilding process, visit the FEMA website at www.fema.gov.

Please join me for lunch at our next Branch meeting on November 13thto witness the release of the 2012 Report Card for Houston Area Infrastructure followed by a panel discussion regarding local infrastructure.  Be sure to inform your colleagues, co-workers, and friends of this meeting as well.  This topic affects all who reside in the Houston region.  I hope to see you there.

Happy Thanksgiving!
