The Mathcounts Rockets competition is next Saturday, November 12. For those not familiar with the Mathcounts program, it is a national math competition consisting of 6th, 7th & 8th grade students. The Greater Houston Chapter has 3 “practice” competitions throughout the year before our official competition in February. This is our first year to have a practice competition at the Toyota Center.
Registration for the event will begin at 9:00am, so I ask that volunteers arrive at 8:30am if possible. The competition should conclude around 2:00pm. We will need help in the following areas:
Registration – volunteers will need to check students in and verify that they have paid for the event, then provide an overall list of the students.
Proctor – volunteers will help hand out exams to the students (there are 3 rounds of tests), collect tests at the end of each round and observe students during testing
Grading Room – volunteers will help sort exams by school or team number, and possibly help grade exams if we do not have enough parents to help grade exams. We will also need help entering grades into our spreadsheet to determine overall scores and ranking
General – Since this is the first year at this location, I’m sure we will need to direct people to the correct area and answer general questions as people arrive.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me. Look forward to seeing you there!
