"City of Houston Changes in Infrastructure Design"
The City of Houston has established a 5-year cycle for review and consideration of changes to elements of Infrastructure Design including the Infrastructure Design Manual, Standard Construction Specifications, Standard Drawings/Details and related components in the Subdivision Ordinance (Chapter 42). While changes in storm drainage were completed in 2008, on-going reviews of street standards are expected to be completed before May 2009. In addition, on-going discussions of Access Management, Traffic Signal Design, Tree Protection, Skybridges, Residential Subdivision Markers and other infrastructure related matters are under consideration. "City of Houston Green Building Resource Center"
The City of Houston recently opened the Code Enforcement Green Building Resource Center (CEGBRC). The center is located at 3300 Main St. in the Permit Office of the Code Enforcement Building. The intention of the Resource Center is to educate the community about energy efficiency and building green. The public and permit customers may meet with the CEGBRC to look at their preliminary building and home plans for opportunities to add green strategies to save energy, save water and make their buildings healthier. The public can peruse the shelves and displays, touch and feel samples, and learn about green building options in a relaxed setting where they can browse on their own, use an interactive kiosk, or ask questions of the Program Director. The roof area is in development to also become a demonstration area for cool roofing and vegetated roofing displays. Mr. Harry Arthur, with Erosion Prevention Products has 5 years experience designing, estimating and installing articulating concrete block systems. In addition to presentations with engineers and state offices, he has provided estimating for all projects completed by EPP. Mr. Arthur has helped design projects for the Army Corp. of Engineers and the Texas Dept. of Transportation. In addition he has been evolved on projects that include shoreline protection from wave attack and high velocity water flow in channels, flood control drainage projects and municipal utility district projects.
