We can’t wait until next year!<br> <br> <strong>PAST EVENTS</strong>:<br> <br> <u>Local Student Chapters’ Graduation Party:</u><br> YMF hosted a graduation party on Saturday, May 10th at Hermann Park. Festivities began at 11am. We had about 20 people show up, about half were students. We all ate hamburgers and hotdogs, hung out, and played some football. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to socialize with our local student chapters!<br> <br> <u><a title="Annual Golf Tournament" href="/en/photos/albums/v/15"><u style="font-size: 10pt">Annual Golf Tournament:</u></a></u>&nbsp;<br> This year’s tournament was held on Friday, May 16th, at Southwyck Golf Course. On this beautiful day, 22 teams of 4 played in the tournament. This year we had a very good turnout from both governmental employees and students. We were able to reach our goal and made just under $6000.&nbsp; The donations were used towards the $9000 in scholarships that the branch recently awarded to various students from the University of Houston, Rice University, and Prairie View A&amp;M University. <br> <br> We would like to thank all of our sponsors and everyone who was able to come out and play in the 2008 tournament. Special thanks go to this year’s co-chairs Matt Adams and Tim Knable and their volunteers. The 2008 Annual Houston Golf Tournament was a very successful tournament!<br> <br> <u>Joint YMF Camping Trip: <br> </u>Houston YMF joined up with the Tyler and Fort Worth Younger Members for a weekend in the outdoors at Lake O’ the Pines during the weekend of May 17th.<br> <br> This camp site was located on Big Cypress Creek in the Cypress River Basin, 25 miles northeast of Longview. Items on the itinerary included horseshoes, volleyball, fishing, hiking, etc. <br> <br> <u>Annual Sandcastle Tournament:</u> <br> On Saturday, May 31st, the ASCE Houston Younger Members headed to East Beach on Galveston Island to participate in the 22nd Annual AIA Houston Sandcastle Competition, the largest amateur sandcastle building competition in the world. The 25-member team led by Clay Forister represented ASCE in its eighth year of participation in the event.&nbsp; Teams began with a 22’x25’ plot and approximately 10 cubic yards of sand, with additional stockpiles of sand available intermittently throughout the beach. &nbsp;Using wheelbarrows, shovels, formwork, saltwater pumped or bucketed to the plot, and plenty of manual labor, the participants built a variety of creations, including traditional sandcastles, renderings of natural scenery, and fictitious characters from stories. &nbsp;The use of Portland cement, other additives, and heavy equipment was strictly prohibited during the five-hour building process.</div> <div align="justify">&nbsp;</div> <div align="justify">ASCE’s theme for 2008 was “Eye of the Storm” under the category of Most Lifelike.
